2005 "Just Relax" Week at the Alisal

Join Fred Theurkauf, international bridge star Eddie Kantar, Finesse West Alumni and friends for five fun-filled days & nights this April in Santa Barbara County’s secluded Alisal Guest Ranch & Resort. Rich in tradition and history, the Alisal has hosted a continuous stream of affluent, “up-coast” California families and celebrities who’ve come back for over fifty years, returning for the superb food, the tasteful accommodations, the warm and friendly staff, and the chance to relax with family and friends in an “away from it all” setting. Near Reagan’s Rancho del Cielo, the beautifully manicured grounds of the Alisal will be perfect for short walks in the great April weather, horseback or buckboard rides, swimming (even tennis, golf or trout fishing if you like) or just relaxing under the shade of giant sycamores, oaks and pines with a cocktail in hand. With bridge fun and games galore, the camaraderie of Finesse West Alums, entertaining lectures by charming and humorous Eddie Kantar, and a day of sightseeing in beautiful Santa Barbara, you can’t miss with our “Just Relax” Week 2005.

Day 1 Alumni Testimonials about the Alisal

The Alisal is nestled in the foothills of
California's beautiful Santa Ynez Mountains
"It doesn't feel like a ranch with all of the green grass . . . wonderful atmosphere, great food and service beyond compare. Just thinking about the Alisal again brings back warm memories." - Roberta Creed, Fillmore, CA

" . . . a magnificent place to relax with family and friends. It has an inviting atmosphere that everyone enjoys. The food, service and attention to detail keep us coming back. Mel Gibson and his family were there during our last stay, enjoying the chance to relax and mingle with everyone - that's how it is at the Alisal . . . and April is the perfect month to visit." - Ann Wilson, Ventura, CA

"I'm happy to say I get back to the Alisal once a year and it's always a great experience. In fact, Virge Walsh [another Finesse West Alum] and I threw our own 3-table bridge party at the Alisal a dozen years ago. The girls are still asking when we are going back again! It's fine reputation is well deserved. I love it there." - Jean Bailey, Carpinteria, CA

Guest Lecturer, Eddie Kantar

Cost: Included in your "Just Relax" Week 2005

Bridge Hall of Fame member and lecturer extraordinaire, the Ambassador of Bridge, is bringing his winning charm and engaging lecturing style to the Alisal this April for our Just Relax Week. Eddie Kantar began his bridge career at the tender age of eleven when he first learned to play duplicate. By seventeen he was already teaching others the game and, before long, Eddie had jumped onto the international bridge scene with both feet, claiming two World Championships, a dozen National Championships, and countless Regional and Sectional titles.  His North American titles include the Spingold and Vanderbilt Knockout Teams, the Reisinger Board-a-Match Teams and the Grand National Teams. Aside from his star-studded bridge performances at the table, Eddie Kantar is ACBL’s “Ambassador of Bridge” less for his prolific bridge writing (25 books and counting, not to mention regular contributions to the ACBL Bridge Bulletin, Bridge World, Bridge Today and OKBridge) than for his unmatched ability to dispense bridge wisdom with an engaging charm and entertaining sense of humor that make him a pleasure to all. We’re delighted at the opportunity to have Eddie bring his fun approach to bridge to our Just Relax Week 2005.
