2002 Waterways of Northern California + Yosemite & Lake Tahoe Ext.

You're invited to join Fred Theurkauf on October 12, 2002 for a bridge playing, sightseeing and cruising holiday on the Waterways of Northern California. We'll spend five nights cruising in casual luxury on the M/V Yorktown Clipper in San Francisco Bay and the Sacramento Delta followed by three nights in historic Monterey. From the beautiful Golden Gate Bridge and vineyards of Napa Valley to Steinbeck's Cannery Row in old Monterey and the beautiful rugged coastline of Big Sur, we'll do and see it all. And, of course, bridge hospitality will abound as we join local bridge players for fun evenings of dinner and duplicate bridge.

Day 1 San Jose - Embark
  Arrive on your flight this morning at San Jose International Airport. You'll be transferred directly to the M/V Yorktown Clipper for embarkation.

Day 2 Sausalito

Sea Otter at Play
Enjoy sightseeing today in the artists' haven of Sausalito, a charming town that hugs the San Francisco Bay shoreline. Enjoy lunch "on the deck" in a waterfront cafe, and shop to your heart's content in the quaint local shops. Don't forget to watch for sea otters at play just off the shoreline.

Day 3 Sacramento
  Enjoy Old Sacramento today, the heart of the California capital. Today's optional excursion takes you to the area settled by John Sutter in 1839 and destined for greatness 10 years later when gold was struck at Sutter's Fort.

Day 4 Napa Valley

The Napa Valley
In the heart of California's agricultural region, Napa Valley has become famous as a location for award-winning wineries. Today, you'll sample world-renowned vintage fare while touring two select wineries from the region.

Day 5 San Francisco

The Golden Gate Bridge
This morning, opt for an exciting excursion to historic Alcatraz. And, this afternoon, explore the lively streets of San Francisco at your leisure, touring in Northbeach, Golden Gate Park, Ghirardelli Square and Fisherman's Wharf.

Day 6 Disembark - Monterey
  We disembark this morning and immediately head for Palo Alto. We'll enjoy a guided tour of the prestigious Stanford University campus, noted for its beautiful romanesque and Spanish style architecture, picturesque setting and academic excellence. After bridge with the local Palo Alto players, we'll head for Monterey.

Day 7 Monterey

The Lone Cypress
This morning we depart for Monterey's stunning 17-Mile Drive, ending in the delightful city of Carmel. After lunch, we'll explore the Carmel Mission, arriving at Chateau Julien Winery in time for wine-tasting.

Day 8 Monterey

The Big Sur Coastline
Today we explore the rugged coastline of Big Sur and enjoy wildlife watching at the Point Lobos Wildlife Preserve as we snake south along Highway One. This afternoon we'll tour old Monterey, and spend time at the finest sea-life showplace in the nation - the acclaimed Monterey Aquarium. Enjoy exploring the hidden world of Monterey Bay from shallow tide-pools to the million-gallon indoor ocean. Tonight, join Fred Theurkauf for a sumptuous Farewell Dinner at our hotel. We'll recount highlights from our California journey and toast to new friends. Anything goes!

Day 9 Monterey - Depart
  Those not continuing on our Yosemite-Tahoe Extension will transfer to San Jose International Airport for their independent return flights home.
